Adjunct Faculty Compensation Policies

  • Adjunct faculty teaching in the Extended Programs Division or the Accelerated Programs Division are paid per credit hour according to a salary schedule that recognizes academic qualifications and length of service at the University of Indianapolis

  • Adjunct faculty teaching in the Day Division receive an additional amount of compensation above the regular adjunct faculty compensation schedule. Tuition is considerably higher in the Day Division, therefore adjunct faculty members receive a portion of this additional revenue.

  • Affiliate faculty teaching in the Institute for Leadership and Professional Development (formerly Continuing Education Division) are paid per contact hour according to a fixed salary schedule.

Deductions for federal income tax, social security and Medicare tax, state income tax, and local option tax are made in accordance with the laws of the United States and the State of Indiana. Any change in dependency status that may affect such deductions must be reported by the adjunct faculty member to Dan Burns in the Accounting Office, 788-3223.

All adjunct faculty members must have current tax withholding and I-9 forms on file with the Accounting Office before paychecks will be processed. Checks are prepared monthly and are generally available in the SAL office, Esch Hall 102, on the 25th of each month. The payment schedule for adjunct faculty members varies, but typically is as follows:

  • Semester I: Four equal monthly payments in September, October, November, and December.
  • Semester II: Four equal monthly payments in January, February, March, and April.
  • Spring Term: One payment in May.
  • Summer Session I: Varies: One payment in May or two equal monthly payments in May and June.
  • Summer Session II: Varies: Two equal monthly payments in June and July, or one payment in July.

Associate adjunct faculty members are paid in 12 monthly payments from September to August. ILPD affiliate faculty members receive one payment at the end of their teaching assignment. Instructors may elect to receive one payment at the end of each semester rather than equal monthly payments.

Paragraph 4 of the Adjunct Faculty Employment Contract always clearly defines the payment terms for that specific contract.
