School for Adult Learning
Registration Regulations

Updated 12/01/2005 (changes in red)

The School for Adult Learning has established registration regulations for students enrolling in accelerated courses. The regulations have been set to ensure that students are provided with the best possible opportunity for success when taking courses in the accelerated format.

SAL students may register for accelerated courses as offered, provided they are matriculated in the Student Records System as an Accelerated Programs Division student in one of the following enrollment categories:

  • B.L.S. degree, Liberal Studies
  • B.S. degree, Organizational Leadership

The following regulations apply to these matriculants:

NOTE: A term equals 15 weeks. There are three five-week sessions in each term. There are three terms in each calendar year.

  • FIRST TERM ENROLLMENT: Accelerated students may register for one course per accelerated session for a total of three courses during the first term. First-time students are limited to one course during each of the first three sessions of enrollment.
  • AFTER THE FIRST TERM: Accelerated students may register for two courses per session provided that they maintain a 3.30 or higher cumulative grade point average.
  • No student will be allowed to register for more than two accelerated courses in any one session.
  • Accelerated Program students must maintain a minimum 2.50 or higher GPA to remain eligible for the program. If a student's GPA falls below the 2.50 requirement, the student will then be placed on probation and have one term in the accelerated program to bring the GPA back to the required 2.50. If the student has not raised his/her GPA to the required 2.50 in that probationary term, or if a student's GPA falls below 2.0 (1.99 or less), the student will be moved into the College of Arts and Sciences as an undeclared major, giving the student the opportunity to excel in the extended format. Once the GPA is raised to the required 2.50 or above, the student may move back into the accelerated program.

Extended Programs Division students may register for accelerated courses only after the scheduled Walk-In Registration date for that term or session. Extended Programs Division students are limited to a total of 6.0 credit hours in the accelerated format, and must complete the Application for Guest Student Status available in the SAL office. Enrollment in the accelerated division by Extended Programs Division students requires the approval of the Key Advisor, the Department Chairperson, the Dean of the School for Adult Learning, and the University Provost.

Accelerated students have first choice on all accelerated courses; if space remains, others are then considered for enrollment in such courses. The regulations listed above apply equally to Extended Programs Division students allowed to enroll in accelerated courses. Extended Programs Division students requesting Guest Student Status must meet the same criteria for enrollment as Accelerated Programs Division students.
